What It Means To Be A Member

Abbey Church meets as one of two congregations, Hillview and Abbey Churches. We have one leadership, a group of Elders, supported by Deacons who look after practical matters and Ministry Teams that cover every area of church activity.

The first Sunday morning every month is called ‘Now and Then Sunday’ (check details under the ‘Events’ tab) and is specially for those who go to church now and then. It aims to explore what it means to be a Christian. ‘Now and Then Sunday’ begins at 10.30am and lasts for 1 hour. Other Sundays in the month (10.30 – 11.45) are times of worship and teaching aimed at those who are exploring the Christian faith, or who have recently decided to believe in Jesus for themselves. Activities for children run in parallel with this service. There is a creche for children under 3 years of age.
On the first and third Sundays of each month we also have a Worship and Communion evening service at 6.30pm when we remember Jesus and His death for us. Everyone is welcome at this service.

The first Wednesday of every month offers further teaching on topical issues for Christians today. For this we meet at Hillview Church, Colwell Avenue, Hucclecote, Gloucester. We also meet there on Sunday evenings at 6.30pm. This is for worship and Bible Teaching. We aim that this service will include a variety of worship styles, creativity and content.

Fellowship is expressed by our commitment and love for each other. This is sometimes easier to express in small groups, so we allocate every member to a Fellowship group. These meet twice a month in homes. Prayer is the powerhouse of the church. We encourage every member to pray privately by producing a Prayer Diary and Prayer Points on the weekly bulletin. We pray in our Fellowship Groups and all-together at our Worship and Prayer meeting which is on the 3rd & 5th Tuesday evening of each month.
